Quran

Beginners

  • Learn to read
  • Alphabet and Letter Recognition
  • Correct Pronunciation
  • Reading Rules

The first step to the Quran for students who are beginning their journey with the Quran. This is ideal for students who have little to no knowledge with regards to the Arabic alphabet. The syllabus has been especially tailored to non-Arabic speakers and focuses on the most common script of the Quran found in Masjids worldwide.

This is a special syllabus for students to be able to read and write Quranic Arabic. This is one of the fundamental skills in order to read the Quran and will better prepare students for the intermediate level. Every lesson uses a very simple and easy method, to ensure that the students will effectively progress through the course.

The course content includes the following:

Alphabets and letter recognition

Students will be taught how to recognise letters in terms of the shape of the letters and the different variations each letter can be written.

Reading rules

All the Arabic rules from the Quran will be taught so that students will be able to read the Quran fluently.

Correct pronunciation

Students will understand how to pronounce each letter with the correct points of articulation. They will be able to distinguish between letters that originate from the same point of articulation or may sound the same to the untrained ear.

By the end of this level students will be able to read straight from the Quran and also write down verses. Students will also be introduced to the basic Tajweed rules (Tajweed Level 1). This course typically takes one year to finish, before students will progress on to the intermediate level course.

Memorisation

This level will be offered in three variations based on the student’s desired timeframe for memorising

The entire Quran:

  1. Within 1 to 2 Years
  2. Within 2 to 3 Years
  3. Within 3 to 4 Years

Course Highlights:

  • Memorisation of the Entire Quran: Achieving the dream of all Muslims by committing the entire Quran to memory.
  • Learning Different Qiraat: Students will have the option to learn different recitations of the Quran other than Hafs, enriching their understanding and recitation skills.

Each variation will be tailored to ensure that the student meets their memorisation goals within their chosen timeframe while also providing opportunities to explore and master different styles of Quranic recitation.

Iman (Faith)

Iman is often translated to faith or belief, but in Islam to truly understand and live with Iman we need to have the certainty of belief in Allah (Exalted Be He). At Al Fath Academy, we aim to embed Iman into the hearts of our students by focusing on three main topics:

Evidence of the Existence of Allah (Exalted Be He)

Allah (Exalted Be He) has commanded us in the Quran to reflect on the universe, as the signs of His beautiful, designed system and complex creation show that there is a divine creator of the world we live in. Our teachers will allow students to explore the created world with deep and open discussions in order to discover the miracles of the world Allah (Exalted Be He) has created for us.

Fundamentals of Iman

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) highlights the fundamentals of Iman in a famous Hadith where he is questioned by Angel Jibril about Islam, Iman, Ihsan and the hour (the day of judgment). The Prophet describes Iman by stating the following:

“It is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Last Day, and in Qadar (fate), both in its good and in its evil aspects.”

At Al Fath Academy we use this Hadith and delve deeper into each of the six aspects of Iman mentioned by the Prophet (Peace be upon Him).

Names of Allah (Exalted Be He)

At Al Fath Academy we understand that it is not enough to only know the translations of each of the blessed 99 names Allah (Exalted Be He). We delve deeper into the significance of each name as with this knowledge, our students will enhance their connection with Allah (Exalted Be He) and further deepen their Iman.

Ibadah (Devotion to Allah)

One of the best definitions of Ibadah has been provided by Ibn Taymiyyah (May Allah be pleased with him), and he states that “Ibadah is a collective term for everything which Allah loves and is pleased with from among the sayings and inward and outward actions”. At Al Fath Academy for children between 6-10 years of age we will focus on mastering the following topics:

Wudhu and Taharah

Purity is a very important pre requisite to prayer and it is an essential aspect of a Muslims life. We will be focusing on the main aspects of purity, such as the importance of having clean garments, how to perform wudhu (ablution) properly, how to wash after attending the washroom and many more.

Salah

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: "Pray as you have seen me praying." [Reported by al-Bukhari].

Salah is our opportunity to come closer to Allah and communicate with Him in the best of ways. In order to make the most of this blessed opportunity it is important to ensure that we perform this blessed act of worship in the correct manner.

At Al Fath Academy Salah is taught from the very foundations, beginning with the principal conditions one has to meet in order to perform Salah. We aim to teach how to perform Salah in accordance with the following Hadith. The ultimate aim of Al Fath Academy is for all our students to be able to continue to perform Salah in the most correct way throughout their life.

Fasting

Fasting is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and is a means for Muslims to come to closer to Allah (Exalted be He) as a person gives up worldly desires for the sake of their Lord.

This course will focus on the following aspects of fasting:

  • An elaboration on the definitions of fasting
  • The obligation of fasting
  • Upon whom the fast of Ramadan is obligatory
  • What makes a fast complete and valid?
  • The types of fasting
  • The recommended days of fasting and the disliked days of fasting
  • When someone can make up missed fasts
  • The actions that nullify or invalidate the fast

Akhlaq (Islamic Ethics)

Aqhlaq is mentioned and demonstrated multiple times in the Quran and Sunnah. One short but famous hadith is narrated by Abu Hurayra (May Allah be pleased with him) who reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "I was sent to perfect good character”.

In today’s society it is a struggle for the youth to pick up good manners from their interactions with others. The influence of social media, movies and what is being promoted during our daily lives are continuously leading us to living a life with no limits and ultimately no manners.

At Al Fath Academy, we aim to teach our young students not only the importance of Aqhlaq, but also the numerous benefits that come with it in order to better encourage them to practice these actions in their daily life.

For students between the ages of 6-10 years, the course will cover the following:

  • Thankfulness
Being thankful is a characteristic that is hard to master in our current society as we constantly take things for granted. We often forget how fortunate we are to have the simple things in life, such as food and a place to sleep. Learning to be thankful will allow a person to be more content with what they have and not yearn for worldly, materialistic things that society often pushes on us. Al Fath Academy will aim to teach to not only be thankful to our friends and family, but to ultimately be thankful to Allah (Exalted be He) first as he is the one that provides us.
  • Respect
In the eyes of Allah (Exalted be He) everyone is equal and as a result respect is a right that should be given to every human being. Islam encourages us to not belittle others or look down on those that are not as fortunate. Respect should be given to everyone no matter whether they come from a different country, culture, race, etc.
  • Sharing
In Islam, sharing is a fundamental value that promotes unity and community strength. The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) emphasized the importance of generosity and sharing with others, stating that true faith includes loving for one’s brother what one loves for oneself. By sharing our blessings, we not only fulfill a moral duty but also create a more compassionate and connected society.
  • Honesty
Honesty is a core principle in Islam, guiding all aspects of a Muslim’s life. The Quran and Hadiths repeatedly stress the importance of truthfulness in speech and actions. The Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) said, “Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise.” At Al Fath Academy, we encourage our students to uphold honesty as a key attribute, understanding that it fosters trust and integrity.
  • Patience
Patience, or ‘Sabr,’ is a virtue highly regarded in Islam. It is the ability to endure hardships and challenges with a calm and composed demeanor, trusting in Allah’s plan. The Quran states, “Indeed, Allah is with the patient” (Quran 2:153). Teaching patience helps our students develop resilience and perseverance, essential qualities for personal and spiritual growth.

Prophets in Islam (Seerah (The Prophet’s Biography)

  • Prophet Adam
Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) is the first human and the first prophet in Islam. Allah created him from clay and gave him knowledge that made him special. Adam was chosen to be the first leader on Earth. Allah then created his wife, Hawwa (Eve), from him. They lived in Paradise but were tempted by Iblis (Satan) to eat from a tree that Allah had forbidden. After this, they were sent down to Earth, where Adam became the father of all people and taught his children about worshiping Allah and living a good life.
  • Nuh (Peace be Upon Him)
Prophet Nuh (Peace be Upon Him) is known for his perseverance in the face of adversity. Despite being ridiculed and rejected by his people, he continued to preach the message of Allah for 950 years. His story teaches us the importance of patience and steadfastness in our faith.
  • Ibrahim (Peace be Upon Him)
Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be Upon Him) is revered as the patriarch of monotheism, demonstrating unwavering faith in Allah. His life is marked by his commitment to spreading the message of Tawheed (the oneness of Allah), enduring numerous trials, including the command to sacrifice his son, which he prepared to obey out of sheer devotion.
  • Moses (Peace be Upon Him)
Prophet Moses (Peace be Upon Him), or Musa, is a significant figure in Islamic tradition. He led the Israelites out of Egypt and received the Torah from Allah. His story is one of liberation, justice, and the enduring struggle against tyranny, emphasizing the importance of leadership and faith.
  • Jesus (Peace be Upon Him)
Prophet Jesus (Peace be Upon Him), or Isa, is highly respected in Islam. He performed miracles by Allah’s will and conveyed the message of monotheism. Muslims believe in his miraculous birth and his role as a prophet who called people to worship Allah alone, awaiting his return in the end times.
  • Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him)
Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) is the final prophet in Islam, sent to all of humanity with the message of the Quran. His life exemplifies the highest moral standards and serves as a model for all Muslims. His teachings and practices form the foundation of Islamic faith and practice.

There are several types of Madd, including Madd Tabee’i (natural lengthening), where vowels are extended for two counts, and Madd Far’ee (secondary lengthening), which occurs due to specific causes like a hamzah (ء) or sukoon (ْ) following the vowel. Madd Far’ee can extend the vowel for 4 to 6 counts, depending on the type, such as Madd Muttasil (connected) or Madd Munfasil (separated). These rules help maintain the correct pronunciation and rhythm of Quranic recitation.
